Bank of Makati recently sponsored a business seminar for existing and prospective clients in Palawan. Dubbed, "Usap tayo, Ka-Biz. Get the latest business updates," the seminar provided Palaweños with an overview of the province's business and industry growth in recent years.
Some 25 clients and businessmen from the development, trading and leasing sectors attended the seminar held at the Aquari Travelers Suites in Puerto Princesa. The seminar was offered for free to the participants as part of BMI’s service commitment to Palaweños.
Guest speaker Maylene Delliro, Trade and Industry Development Specialist from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said that Palawan's booming tourism industry is fueling the growth of the service sector in terms of jobs and investments. From 2008 to 2012, the service sector generated 18,631 jobs (49 percent), followed by the trading sector with 15,643 jobs (42 percent), and the manufacturing sector with 3,194 jobs (six percent).
In the coming years, growth prospects in the province will be driven by an increasing population, and real estate and infrastructure development.
Delliro also discussed the DTI's Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project, which enables micro, small and medium enterprises (mSMEs) to advance their product development and execution processes by giving them access to tools, machinery and equipment that they would otherwise not be able to acquire as individual enterprises. Established in late 2012, the SSF project is envisioned to benefit 86,221 mSMEs around the country.
The seminar was graced by BMI President Ma. Rodora Bañares, Corporate Retail and Lending Group Head Emerson Sta. Ana, Branch Lending Division Head Ardian Garcia and Business Development and Marketing Services Department Head Eric Sandoval.
